It's that time of year again!

Hard to believe but its already time for our kids to go back to school. We thought it might be helpful to provide a few tips on helping your children get back on schedule for the school year.
  • Try to stick to a bedtime even for teenagers. Sleep deprivation can cause your child to have difficulty paying attention, staying awake, perform well on tests, have mood swings and affect their behavior. Teens need 8 to 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. While sometimes homework or activities may interfere with their sleep routine, it is important for parents to set a bedtime and enforce it as much as possible.
  • Set up a family rule that after lights out, no iPods, texting, phone calls or television are allowed. Teens tend to sleep with their cell phones so they dont miss a text message. This causes them to not sleep fitfully and can lead to sleep problems such as insomnia.
  • Eat healthy! Nutrition is brain food! Pack fruits and veggies into their lunchboxes. Try to avoid sugary drinks and treats which for many children may trigger hyperactivity.
  • After school have your children have some down time. Set a rule that they need to do some physical activity so they get enough exercise to help them keep fit and strong.
  • Allow no more than 1-2 hours per day of media time. This includes listening to music, watching tv, playing video games or updating Facebook. Dont let them become couch potatoes!
  • Try to eat at least two meals together every day as a family without the television on. This is your opportunity for each person to talk about their day.a good way to find out whats happening in your child's world.
  • Remember that teachers are there to teach! It is important for children to learn the art of self control. Kids generally put a slant on things when they are in trouble.take time to consider what the teacher may be dealing with..today many kids mouth off, dont turn in homework and refuse to cooperate. Learning to respect those in authority now will definitely help them in their future when dealing with their employer.
